Wissey u3a

The u3a is a UK-wide collection of 1000+ locally-run interest groups that provide opportunities for those no longer in full-time work to come together and learn for fun. Make the most of life and join more than 430,000 members exploring new ideas, skills and interests with your local u3a.

The Wissey U3A, named after the river Wissey, which flows through this part of Norfolk, was formed in July 1995 by Mrs. Betty Evans when the first meetings took place in her home. Sadly, Betty passed away in 1999. The Wissey U3A has grown steadily since then and there are now over 300 members with more than 20 activity groups.

Come and join us.

Monthly meetings are held on the first Thursday of the month in the Holme Hale Pavilion. Members can arrive at 9.45am and meet up with friends for tea or coffee and then listen to a speaker from 10.30 until 11.30, followed by Wissey U3A business and the meeting concluding at 12 o'clock.

The Wissey U3A is a vibrant branch of the U3A, attracting membership from many of the local towns and villages. There is not a waiting list for membership.

Currently, the Wissey U3A has more than 20 interest groups and some 350 members. Many groups meet in members' homes and others, such as short mat bowls, softball tennis and table tennis, meet at other local venues.

All groups have a leader, who co-ordinates the group's activities and assumes overall responsibility for the group members. A small charge may be made to meet costs. Group leaders receive no payment for running their group(s). Days and times when groups meet may sometimes change due to illness or holidays.

If you are interested in joining a group, either contact the Group Leader or the Groups' Co-ordinator. If a group is full your interest will be registered and you will be contacted if a vacancy arises.
