Friends of St. Nicholas' Chapel

Friends of St Nicholas Chapel

Since the 15th century St Nicholas’ Chapel has been a focal point in Kings Lynn’s life. Entering through its West Door is a jaw dropping experience. Its historical significance and use for many Festival musical events continues that tradition to the present day.

The Friends of St Nicholas’ Chapel are a registered charity,  Charity No. 1099693, and were formed in 2002 to protect, promote and manage the building on behalf of the CCT. We  we did this until 2014 when refurbishment of the Chapel started, along with the rehanging of the bells in 2015. Since then the CCT has employed a manager and a learning development officer to further enhance the building’s use in the community and its commercial viability. The Friends continue to help and advise in this process. There are currently about 100 Friends and we elect a committee who meet regularly.

Along with the Friends there are volunteers who take a more active role in looking after the building and welcoming visitors. With increasing activity in the Chapel we need more volunteers. If you are interested why not visit the Chapel and talk to one of the volunteers or contact Kirsty Gauntley, the CCT manager on 01553 774471 or email  kingslynn@thecct.org.uk

The Friends are keen to increase their membership and attract people with a range of skills and knowledge to join our committee or to undertake specialist tasks to enhance the building. We are also interested in fundraising for several restoration projects, such as the repair and conservation of paintings in the main altar Reredos, and servicing the Willis organ. A membership leaflet is available containing further information and a membership application form.
