RSPB Lakenheath Fen
What was once farmland is now a wonderful wetland nature reserve.
The RSPB is giving bitterns, bearded tits and cranes a new home at RSPB Lakenheath Fen. In spring, marsh harriers sky dance, while the supporting cast of returning migrants bring the reedbeds alive. Listen out for the scratchy songs of reed and sedge warblers. The poplar woods resound with the songs of garden warblers and fluty blackcaps. Scarce mammals like otters and water voles hide in the reedbed pools.
By summer, the reserve is awash with over 100 species of fenland plants. They provide a home for creepy crawlies of all shapes and sizes. Look out for colourful butterflies whilst dragonflies whizz over the pools.
When winter comes round, the poplar woods provide an important roosting site for thousands of rooks and jackdaws. Late afternoon is the best time to see rare birds of prey here.

The visitor centre and toilets are open daily (except Christmas Day and Boxing Day) from 9.00am - 5.00pm. The Reserve is open all year
RSPB members park for free. There is a car parking charge of £4 per car for non-members
