Downham Market Theatregoers' and Social Club
The Downham Market Theatregoers’ and Social Club runs trips to theatres, both local and in the West End, and organises outings and social events. The club, which has more than 200 members, holds monthly social meetings at the Town Hall (usually on the second Wednesday of the month; please contact to confirm before attending), to enjoy entertainment and refreshments.
For outings there are 17 established dropping places in the town where the club's members can leave the coach when returning from a trip and, in the interests of security, the club does its utmost to ensure that no-one has to walk far from their dropping place on their own.
Over the years the club has arranged many trips, including popular shows such as Les Miserables, Heathcliff, Sunset Boulevard, Miss Saigon, Phantom of the Opera, Mamma Mia, Billy Elliot, Hairspray and Evita. However, its range of trips is not limited to musicals, and it also arranges trips for all types of plays, opera, ballet, pantomime and celebrity concerts including Cliff Richard, Torvill and Dean, Shirley Bassey and Katherine Jenkins to mention just a few.
In addition to West End shows and major concerts, the club regularly visits local theatres, including The Theatre Royal at Bury St Edmunds, King's Lynn Corn Exchange, the Theatre Royal at Norwich and the Key Theatre at Peterborough.
