The House of History - Saving Memories - When I was your age
Brief Description of the Project
The House of History- Saving Memories Project is a museum-led dementia awareness programme which offers training, access to resources such as reminiscence boxes, and museum-based activities to enable families and carers to provide person-centred care for people living with dementia.
As a social history museum, we understand that a person’s history and memory are of great value and significance - especially for those living with dementia. This project has been developed to support the preserving and sharing of memories with people living with dementia, improving communication and focussing on the person rather than the condition.
“When I was your age” is a free activity for children aged 5 to 11 and their grandparents or older relatives to visit the museum together.
Utilising our new adventure backpacks the visitors explore the Museum and share stories and memories. They can also fill in an activity sheet which compares what life was like then and now.
