Swaffham Players is the leading amateur dramatic society for Swaffham and the surrounding area. We preserve the finest traditions of amateur drama by presenting plays and shows in local venues, for the community, by the community.

Although there was a “Swaffham Players” operating between the wars, in our present form we were founded in 1970 by local enthusiasts, some experienced, some not. That makes 2020 our 50th anniversary, and we still have a few of those early veterans as active members, including our President!

We have a fine tradition, and some spectacular shows in our history. But no organization can stand still: there are always new plans to make, new shows to put on! We have been using this time of lockdown to think about how to move forward into the 2020’s, producing shows which will appeal to new audiences and encouraging and developing new performers and technicians.

We are excited about the possibilities the Town Council’s purchase of the Barn Theatre will open, but our thinking goes much further than that! In these pages you will find information about “Between the Ears“, our new section for online group practice readings and audio drama for podcasts. You will find information about some past shows, and our plans for future activities. You will soon find short tutorials covering everything from what amateur drama is, to technical production and acting including, yes, how to breathe!

Finally, when you’ve explored the site a little, you’ll be able to go to our contact page, whether you have more questions, or you’re interested in membership.

Swaffham Players is a local amateur dramatic association who aim to bring plays, cabarets and musical to the local community.
