The House of History - Saving Memories - Dementia Café
Brief Description of the Project
The House of History- Saving Memories Project is a museum-led dementia awareness programme which offers training, access to resources such as reminiscence boxes, and museum-based activities to enable families and carers to provide person-centred care for people living with dementia.
As a social history museum, we understand that a person’s history and memory are of great value and significance - especially for those living with dementia. This project has been developed to support the preserving and sharing of memories with people living with dementia, improving communication and focussing on the person rather than the condition.
On the 1st Tuesday in every month starting August 2019 we will hold a Dementia Cafe in our back tearoom.
There will be photographs, oral history recordings to listen to and led discussions on events in the past. It will also be an opportunity to create memory trees- an idea pioneered by The Museum of Liverpool’s House of Memories project.
