Hear for Norfolk (Norfolk Deaf Association)

Hear for Norfolk is the working name for Norfolk Deaf Association (NDA), a charitable company founded in 1898.

Our work aims to improve the lives of young people and adults of all ages in Norfolk with all degrees of hearing loss. We achieve this by offering personal, emotional and practical support, undertaking hearing aid maintenance, providing information on hearing loss and related conditions, and training.

The key outcomes we are striving to achieve for our service users are:

  • Reduction in feeling of loneliness and isolation, contributing to improved well-being and quality of life.
  • Ability to communicate with others, thus building on their confidence and self-esteem.
  • Ability to remain active in their work, education or social activities.Ability to remain active in their work, education or social activities.

Our Befriending Service provides emotional support to individuals who have become isolated owing to their hearing loss, or anyone who thinks their emotional wellbeing would be improved by the one-to-one support offered by the service.

Befriending works by supporting the individual in coming to terms with hearing loss and finding the confidence to venture out and socialise. Your aim might be as simple being able to go to the shops, or to travel on a bus and your befriender will support you in that activity. All befriending volunteers are trained and adhere to a strict set of ethical boundaries.
