West Norfolk & District Chinese Association

West Norfolk & District Chinese Association was established in 2003, based in King's Lynn, Norfolk, with 250 members and 8 committee members. In West Norfolk there are about 2000 Chinese people in the area, originally from Hong Kong , Taiwan , Malaysia , Singapore , other European countries and Mainland China .

As a group we are all volunteers and a non-profit making organisation. Our main purpose is to unite all Chinese people in this area together and have a common voice. To achieve this we have organised activities: Dragon Boat Race, Lion dance, Mid-Autumn Festival, Christmas events, and Chinese New Year Celebrations. Hundreds of people have attended our events, members and non-members are welcome. We also offer our services to those who need assistance in housing, social security, employment, English language training, and interpreting service, immigration matters and etc.

Most importantly, we act as a bridge to all statutory departments, on behalf of all Chinese people in this region. With this good liaison relationship, we contribute towards policy making regarding local council matters and safety issues in the area. We also have a very good relationship with the BBC and various media.

We manage our Chinese School (established in 1992) with 62 students, ages from 5 to 16, focusing on Chinese language and Chinese cultural studies. We also assist our local state schools in building a good partnership with Chinese schools in China .

We visit local festivals with our lion dance team introducing Chinese traditions and often invited by local state schools to demonstrate our Chinese culture to parents, teachers and school children.

Financially we are supported by: All our members, Borough Council of Kings Lynn & West Norfolk, Menter, Community Champion-Cover, CVS, Norfolk Library, The Art Council, and BBC Children in Need.
