GOLD | Guidance for the Older Driver

The Guidance for Older Drivers programme (GOLD) is for anyone concerned about their driving and aims to help older people continue driving for as long as it is safe to do so, or to support them with alternative choices.

GOLD is intended to help and advise. It is not a process to stop people from driving but is an opportunity to help older drivers regain lost confidence, bring their skills up-to-date and overcome any specific problems, such as:

  • Night driving
  • Dealing with junctions and roundabouts
  • Recognising and understanding road signs
  • Whether medication is affecting the ability to drive
  • Eye sight concerns

Drivers can apply themselves, or they can be referred by a health professional or by a family member.
