Vision Norfolk - Audio Book Club Volunteers in Fakenham

Do you enjoy reading and talking about books? Can you lead a discussion? Would you like to help visually impaired people re-discover one of the greatest pleasures in life?

Vision Norfolk has several very well established groups around the county and is keen to recruit a volunteer to assist with our monthly virtual Fakenham audio book club meetings. The members have access to talking books on either an MP3 CD or a USB stick, from the Calibre audio Library.

We are looking for a volunteer to help run the monthly meetings, perhaps somebody from a literary background or from teaching, to co-ordinate the lively discussions which takes place.  IT skills would also be a real benefit, as due to the covid19 restrictions meetings are taking place on zoom, either online or over the phone.  (It is hoped that in due course meetings will be able to return to the Fakenham Library).

Volunteers would be required to also assist with keeping the groups reading lists updated and liaising with the leisure activities coordinator.

Full training and back up is provided by staff from Vision Norfolk, and volunteers would be required to undertake a visual awareness training course and also have a DBS check.

This opportunity is one that can make a real difference to people’s lives. The clubs not only give immense pleasure but open doors to the world of audio books for blind and partially sighted people in the county.
