Canal and River Holidays

Canal and river holidays are a great way of combining a relaxing holiday with the opportunity to enjoy the sights and sounds of the countryside as it passes slowly by. Popular with people of all ages, narrowboat or riverboat holidays provide the freedom to see and do whatever you wish. We are pleased to offer a choice of boats – our riverboat the ‘Charlotte III’ and our narrowboat ‘Lilia’, both specially designed for wheelchair users.

The Charlotte III replaces the two previous boats of the same name, the first of which was commissioned by the late Bruce Wake, who was himself wheelchair bound as a result of a Motor Neurone Disease. Sadly Bruce did not live to see ‘Charlotte’ launched in June 1992, but generously instigated and endowed this Trust to assist those who are disabled to benefit, together with their families, from a holiday on the waterways.

Grants Available from Grant Giving Trust

An important part of the work of the Bruce Wake Trust is grant giving. The Bruce Wake Trust considers applications for grant funding to organisations and individuals which support the aims of the trust which is – to encourage and assist the provision of leisure activities for the disabled. If you have an eligible project we’d be pleased to hear from you, or you can apply now for funding.
