The West Norfolk Singers
Like many towns and villages, Heacham has a long history of choral singing and there was certainly a Heacham Choral Society in the past.
Evidence exists that there were at least five choirs in the late 1940s and early 1950s and some of these participated in the Hunstanton Festival of Arts in the early 1950s.
Original minutes exist from 1983 for “The Heacham & West Norfolk Singers”. However, more recently, this name was changed to “The West Norfolk Singers” to reflect the wider area of membership of the choir.
Rehearsals are held from September to May on Wednesday evenings from 19.15 to 21.15 at Heacham Methodist Church in Station Road.
Concerts are performed at Christmas and also in the Spring, usually in local churches, as these venues are the most suitable. All proceeds are split equally between the church and the choir, raising many thousands of pounds over the years.
The mix of music sung encompasses both sacred and secular, with some old favourites but frequently introducing something new to challenge both members and audiences alike.
Membership currently stands around 26, with a good balance of male and female voices.
