The Nurture Project
The Nurture Project offers social and horticultural therapy to those with mild to moderate mental health problems in a small group setting at Wells Community Hospital Trust.
Wells Community Hospital Trust and The Nurture Project are launching, in partnership, a new gardening programme supporting adults living with mild to moderate mental ill health.
The Nurture Project aims to provide a year-round horticultural therapy outreach programme based at the Wells Community Hospital Trust, whereby supervised gardening can be used to promote adult mental and physical wellbeing in a safe and friendly environment.
Wells Community Hospital Trust offers a wide range of flexible and integrated health and wellbeing services for the community it serves. Wells Community Hospital Trust has formed a partnership with locally based practitioners, The Nurture Project. We are using horticultural therapy and gardening through this pilot programme to help facilitate the improvement of health and wellbeing of adults living in Wells-next-the-Sea, and the surrounding communities.
Horticulture has a meaningful therapeutic value, both on a physical and emotional level. Horticultural Therapy is an innovative and creative approach to helping people living with mental health issues, such as depression, anxiety or stress. This programme will offer the opportunity of small group work in the beautiful gardens at Wells Community Hospital Trust. We will be operating with a recognised outcome model, which will allow our trained therapists to build a set of activities for each group member to improve their particular health needs, and to work on clear therapeutic goals.
The new pilot programme offers a variety of gardening experiences, as well as indoor horticultural activities, prior gardening experience is not a requirement.
