Warm welcome for news that local operators have stepped in to continue to run Stagecoach routes

08 March 2018

**Passengers are urged to visit for details of which provider will be running their bus route in the future. Passengers are advised to check new timetables with individual operators – details should be on their websites within the next 2 weeks.**

Bus services on the popular Coasthopper route along the North Norfolk coast will continue to run it has been announced today after local operators Lynx, Sanders Coaches and West Norfolk Community Transport stepped in to take over routes and services across the county previously run by Stagecoach.

There have recently been concerns for the services run by Stagecoach after the company announced a review of all the routes that they run in Norfolk. The company has now confirmed that they will be withdrawing from a number of bus routes in Norfolk, their last day of operation being 28 April 2018 in most cases.

Martin Wilby, Chairman of Norfolk County Council’s Environment, Development and Transport committee said: “It’s very welcome news that the future of services on the Coasthopper route looks to be secure. Our transport team and local operators have been working hard to make sure that as far as possible the former Stagecoach services continue to run.

“Some services and timetables may differ from now. We’re expecting to have much greater detail on routes and timings over the coming days. As details emerge and services switch over to new providers we’ll continue to work with operators to review services by looking at passenger numbers and listening to customer feedback.”

Norfolk County Council has been working with alternative local transport providers to ensure there are replacement services that are sustainable for the future, and local operators have agreed to cover the services on a predominantly commercial basis. Some services and timetables may differ from what currently exists and some areas may see a reduction in the level of service, however services will continue to be reviewed and developed, taking into account things like passenger numbers, customer feedback and key connections.

In addition the county council is working with operators on areas such as through ticketing and connecting services so that journeys can be made as seamless as possible. Passengers are advised to check new timetables with individual operators – details should be on their websites within the next 2 weeks.

Some services also provide journeys for students attending schools, sixth forms and colleges. Within the next three weeks Norfolk County Council’s transport team will be writing to everyone who has a pass issued by the County Council to confirm any new travel arrangements. And anyone who has a pass issued by Stagecoach will need to contact them directly regarding any possible reimbursement.
