Norfolk Trading Standards are warning residents to be on their guard after receiving reports of telephone cold calls claiming to be offering ‘free boilers’.
In one incident a resident received a cold call stating they could offer a ‘free boiler’ if the resident was in receipt of ‘certain benefits’. The cold caller then attempted to gain personal and financial information to ‘check eligibility for the scheme’.
Previously these types of cold calls have also attempted to arrange for a home visit as part of the ‘application’.
Trading Standards always advises to be very wary of claims made during a telephone cold call and never agree to a service or for home visits if approached in this manner.
