Norfolk Trading Standards are warning residents to be on their guard after reports of a cold calling incident in the Reepham area.
Norfolk Police have reported an incident where an elderly resident was cold called by a doorstep caller who offered to trim the hedge at the property. Having agreed to the work, and the work commencing, the cold caller then attempted to charge the resident a further £200 to clear away the resultant clippings.
The resident refused to pay the additional amount but was persuaded by the cold caller to part with some scrap metal in exchange for removing the waste clippings.
Trading Standards advises NEVER deal with anyone who cold calls at your property offering to undertake services or attempting to sell you something.
Anyone sighting these cold callers in Norfolk or concerned about rogue trader activity in their community can contact Trading Standards via our partners the Citizens Advice consumer helpline on 03454 04 05 06.
