Litcham Common Conservation Group
The group was formed by local residents in January 2004, in order to carry out much needed conservation work on the common. Volunteers, both young and old, come not only from Litcham, but also surrounding villages. We find the open air work enjoyable and rewarding, giving us the opportunity to do something of benefit to both wildlife and the local community.
Many of our tasks involve clearing scrub which is encroaching onto the open areas of the common, and we often have a bonfire. Other jobs include clearing litter, opening up footpaths and raking hay.
We meet on the 2nd Saturday of each month, starting at 10am in the car park. Children welcome but they must be carefully supervised. We usually carry on until at least lunchtime, depending on the weather, how much work there is still to do and how enthusiastic we feel!
If you can't make it by 10am then we usually leave a map showing where we are.
Don't worry if you can't spare the whole morning; even if you only come for an hour or so you will be most welcome.
All tools and equipment including protective gloves are provided free.
